V For Venezuela

Ran: April 2017

With Venezuela in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, JeffxJose created a Venmo campaign designed to raise money for Primeros Auxilios UCV, a group of first responders treating victims of police brutality.

After breaking nearly every rule in the book, we raised over $12K in just two days.

This is the story of V for Venezuela.

We began by hijacking the “V” in Venmo’s logo, photoshopping it to incorporate the Venezuelan flag.

Then, we set up a Venmo account called V For Venezuela. Apparently you aren't allowed to do this. We'll get back to that later.

From there, we created a simple Instagram post, encouraging people to Venmo just $1 to our account to support the cause.

Within the first hour... we blew up.

A few hours later, we were even bigger.

The next morning, after raising over $10K, Venmo decided to freeze our account.

So we sent them a strongly worded email, which you can read by clicking here.

And somehow, it actually worked.

Once we got the money out, we partnered with Venezuelan philanthropist Ana Otero

And sent a check for $12K to Venezuela, where they purchased helmets, shields, and medical supplies.

Moral of the story?

Keep it simple. Break the rules. Get that $$$$.
